This ‘throwaway’ is most often used when a male is most vulnerable and needs support, not a question about the strength of their gender.
When this ‘put-down’ enters the fray, the target puts on a pretense and everyone goes away thinking that ‘putting on a brave face’ is the way to go.
This does not mean that a ‘tear fest’ is always in order to fix any sensitivity issues, it just means that there are times when shoving someone into a bullring may be counter-productive.
So the next time you drag out your pompous little speech about your own supposed superiority, stick it!
